JAVIER SORDO MADALENO BRINGAS
PRESIDENT
Born in Mexico City in 1956 and graduated from the Architecture Faculty of the Universidad Iberoamericana, Javier Sordo Madaleno Bringas leads the architecture firm Sordo Madaleno with a global perspective and visionary mindset since 1985.
Javier has created transformative architecture throughout his career of more than 40 years that has proven to be a catalyst for positive change and has improved urban fabric and social equity in a creative and inclusive manner. Including the design of approximately 250 projects, construction of over 9 million square meters, and development of approximately 4 million square meters, his architecture has contributed to the transformation of various Mexican cities by creating remarkable building assemblies that transform urban sites in a very dynamic way. His works embrace diversity of issues that directly affect the quality of life locally and are at the same time a part of the global agenda — habitability, urban transformation and sustainability come hand in hand in his pursuit to build better places for people.

Javier has been recently named an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He is an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA), Professor of the International Academy of Architecture (IAA), and a member of many prestigious associations in the real estate and architecture industries, such as the Mexican School of Architects, the Mexican Society of Architects, the National Academy of Architecture, and the Real Estate Developers Association (ADI).

As Sordo Madaleno’s Director of Architecture Fernando implements an interesting methodology in the design process that is based on research and sensitivity to the context. He has supervised dozens of projects of different typologies and scales from s conceptualization to construction completion. Fernando’s participation as part of the architectural design team in a wide array of projects has been awarded several national and international prizes, for his innovation in design. Fernando has won important international architecture competitions in the Dominican Republic, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Fernando Sordo Madaleno de Haro was born in Mexico City and earned a degree architecture at the Universidad Iberoamericana, graduating in 2014 with honors for his valuable contribution and performance.
Fernando is seen as a natural artist, and an architectural purist whose dedication to the rigorous process of design is unequalled. His dual roles as Vice President of SOMA and Director of Architecture for Sordo Madaleno make the most of his creativity, design sensibility, and passion for exploring the potential of every real estate development through the lenses of design, urbanism, and architecture. Fernando’s talent contributes immeasurably to the way architectural projects improve the quality of life and urban dynamics in the communities where they are located.

A young visionary architect and a creative real estate professional, Javier Sordo Madaleno de Haro finds balance between the mindset of an architect and that of a developer. Javier draws on this uniquely powerful worldview, which catalyzed the establishment of Sordo Madaleno as one of the most important architecture offices in Mexico, and to help lead the firm as Director of Architecture. He also taps into the collective experience gained through three generations of his family’s work building human-oriented communities in Mexico that have improved everyday living for countless people.
Javier’s focus is to drive the creation of innovative solutions for today’s community development needs. He challenges preconceived notions, pushes boundaries, and ultimately leads Sordo Madaleno’s team in crafting architectural projects where retail, hospitality, residential, and commercial uses can be reimagined.

SOMA operates 11 properties in five Mexican states, each with different programs, including mixed-use, commercial, entertainment, art, and offices. Nine further projects are currently under development in six cities across the country and abroad.
It is responsible for administrating approximately 1,469 tenants from 365+ different brands, with a portfolio of 795,000 sqm of GLA and 98% average occupancy.
In 2021 SOMA launched FibraSOMA, a real estate investment trust focused on acquiring, leasing, and administrating real estate properties. FibraSOMA brings together truly exceptional projects. Javier supervises the design of dozens of projects for third-party clients at Sordo Madaleno’s studio, always bringing his passion for detail, holistic solutions, and strong collaborative relationships to every assignment. He is also Vice President of SOMA and the founder of Arte Abierto, a non-profit art foundation devoted to creating opportunities for people to enjoy art serendipitously.
